Sam Jackson Jr. Sam is a cradle
Catholic from Montgomery, Alabama. He is married to Amanda Jackson,
they have five grown children. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1960
and is a member of
Immaculate Heart Church since 1971.
Sam graduated from St. Jude Education Institute
High School in 1952. He attended Xavier University in New Orleans
for one year, graduating from Alabama State University in 1957, with a
B.S. in Secondary Education. Sam has attended numerous workshops,
conferences and conventions throughout the country during the last
twenty-four years concerning various Catholic
Church Activities.
Sam retired from Gunderson Inc. (a local railcar and barge manufacturer) in 1998 as Senior Purchasing Agent, after 34 years of service. He is the founding President of the Portland, Black Lay Catholic Caucus in 1976, he served as president for 10 years. Was a former board member of the National Black Lay Catholic Caucus.

Sam is currently serving as Volunteer African American Coordinator and Archbishop's Liaison to the African American Community for the Archdiocese of Portland.
