WHAT IS THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF OREGON?

AACCO is an affiliate member of the National Black Catholic Congress, (NBCC) located in Baltimore, Maryland.

AACCO consists of individual Black Catholics, and all other Catholics interested in matters relating  to the Black Catholic ministry in the Archdiocese of Portland.    We are Catholic individuals who are active in the Church and have a sincere interest in exchanging information and promoting effective communication among all Black
Catholics and all other Catholics interested in matters relating to the Black Catholic ministry.

You do not need to join the AACCO because you are already a part of it, if you are a Catholic of African descent residing in the Archdiocese of Portland.   To become a full part of the AACCO, you must become active within it. The best way to become more familiar with the organization is by attending the meetings, workshops and seminars sponsored by the AACCO.

As affiliate members of the NBCC, AACCO members attend training programs offered annually  throughout the year for clergy, religious and lay members.  The programs are designed to foster a greater evangelical movement in the African American community.  The NBCC programs include: The Pastoring in African
American Parishes Workshops; The African American Catholic Ministries Program; Regional Lay Training
Workshops;   The High School Consortium project and the National Congress meeting, held every five years.
The primary goals of these programs include providing lay leadership and direction as well as insight and information, the development of effective lay leadership skills for African Americans, the use of
evangelization training models which are beneficial and effective, and the development of evangelization strategies for use at the parish level.
