What does the Archdiocesan Historical Commission do?

While the AHC does not maintain any collections itself, it does:
• encourage the professional collection and preservation of historic resource materials of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, primarily at the parish level;

• encourage the study and publication of heritage resources;

• cooperate with the Oregon Catholic Historical Society by recognizing individuals who have contributed to the preservation of Oregon Catholic history (Since 1981, The Bishop Francis P. Leipzig Award has honored significant contributors.  Some past recipients include Rev. John R. Laidlaw, Rev. Wilfred P. Schoenberg, SJ, Joseph D. McKay and Mrs. Harriet D. Munnick.);

• advise on the preservation of Catholic historical records.
