The Archives Office exists to protect the patrimony of the Catholic Church in this Archdiocese. Its role is to collect, preserve, and safeguard records of significant value that pertain to the Catholic Church in western Oregon.
As a private institutional archives, the Archives Office's primary responsibility is to the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon - the Archbishop and the Pastoral Center. The materials in the Archives are subject to the prescriptions of Canon Law as well as State and Civil Law. Some materials may be subject to further restrictions imposed by confidentiality, local policy, and/or the donors of documents.

Sacramental Records

Sacramental records are kept in the parish where the sacraments are celebrated. These records document the sacramental life of the faithful and are confidential. Records created prior to January 1, 1930 can be accessed for other purpose; e.g., genealogical research

Every person has a right to obtain an official certificate of his or her own sacramental records. Since Sacramental records are found in the parish in which the sacrament took place, contact that parish directly. If you do not know where you received a sacrament, contact the Archives Office for assistance.

In most cases when a church has closed, the sacramental records are transferred to the Pastoral Center Archives Office. In these instances, contact the Archives Office.
