 Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

 The Office of Catholic Deaf Ministry has as its mission the support and encouragement of Deaf Catholic people in their faith lives.  Our programs enable members of the Deaf community to develop and share their gifts.  We work closely with our Deaf Pastoral Council to encourage leadership by the Deaf within the Catholic community and beyond.  At the basis of our ministry is a deep respect for Deaf people's language and culture.
 

The Office of Deaf Ministry:
· Serves the spiritual needs of members of the Catholic Deaf Community.
· Develops and supports lay leadership among the Deaf.
· Provides information and resources for parishes with Deaf members.
· Advocates for the Deaf within the Church and society.

Catholic Deaf Community GOALS: 2007 - 2008

-Continue increased attendance and involvement at Paulist Center Liturgies
  -Children’s Religious Education on 1st Sundays
  -“Community Days” several times during the year
  - Increased involvement of people signing Readings

-Provide opportunities for Adult Faith Development
  -Fall Retreat with Seattle-area Deaf
  -Lenten Faith-Sharing
  -Bible Time-Line Sessions
 

-Outreach Involvement
-Provide van transportation to church for Chestnut Lane
     residents (4th Sundays and special events)
  -Help feed the homeless at St. Francis Dining Hall,  4th Sundays
  -Help with St. Cyril parish “Disciple Build”
   (connected with Habitat for Humanity -helping to build homes or provide lunch)
