QUESTIONS:
1. God speaks to Isaiah about doing a
“new thing” in the life of his people. Is God doing
“a new thing” in your life or the life of your family/household?
Your parish? Your community? Tell a story that describes it. How
are you cooperating with or impeding God?
2. Paul’s desire to know Christ, to be one with Christ, was so great that he saw all else as loss. What does “to be one with Christ,” mean to you? How does your participation in the community of faith help you to come to know Christ, to be one with him?
3. Jesus acted with power and authority
in forgiving this woman’s sin and in challenging the Pharisees’ application
of the law. How willing are you to claim and use your power on behalf of
those who are oppressed? In what ways does our community, or do you,
ever side with the oppressor out of ignorance, fear or prejudice?
In what ways can that be changed?
ACTIONS:
1. Journal on the following: What
kind of power do you have in your life? What are your experiences of power?
Where do you feel powerless? What is the role of power in your life? Over
whom do you have power? With whom do you share power?
2. Have a conversation with someone you know, but who’s life experience is different from yours, about the role of power in their lives. Journal afterwards on how the conversation touched you. What did you learn that was new to you?
