QUESTIONS:
1. Abraham was a tribal leader whose
decisions in public life as well as private life were based on divine promises.
What choices have we made (or might we make) in our public life that are
based on Jesus’ promise of the reign of God, a reign of love, justice,
truth and peace?
2. How does the reality of the resurrection sustain you in standing up for the values of your faith? Tell a story of a person who is an example of this for you.
3. In the transfiguration narrative Jesus who is clothed in a martyr’s white robe converses with Moses and Elijah, two prophets who suffered in fulfillment of their mission. They talk about Jesus’ mission and his death and resurrection. How does the reality of the resurrection sustain you in facing opposition? Can you tell the story of a person who has stood up in the face of opposition, a story that empowers you to stand up for your values?
ACTIONS:
1. At the center of Jesus’ message
is the promise of the reign of God—a gift that can have profound effect
on our lives. Jesus never defines the reign, but he frequently described
its qualities and exemplified it in his own activity. Take some time this
week to look through the Gospel of Luke for actions and statements of Jesus
that fill out a description of the reign. List in your journal ones that
most strike you.
2. Set up 30-45 minute conversation
with another person. Share personal stories about your activity or that
of people close to you that has had public impact for good.
