Mission

The Ministry Certificate Program (MCP) offers classes which can deepen your knowledge and appreciation of your Catholic faith.  You are then better prepared to share your faith as a disciple in mission.

Established in 1995, the program was revised in 2004 to meet the National Certification Standards approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation.  This arrangement will make the certificate you earn in the Archdiocese of Portland portable to other dioceses.

The purpose of the MCP is to prepare Lay Ecclesial Ministers for service to the Church.

What is a “Lay Ecclesial Minister?”

                               Lay… baptized and confirmed Catholic

                               Ecclesial …Church (usually parish)

                               Minister… provides specialized service.

You can work toward a certificate or just take classes of particular interest to you.

Courses are offered in various formats:

  • Online

  • Summer intensive Study Week

  • Parish sites on weekends

  • Two weekend retreats assist participants to develop a spiritual context for service.
