ARCHDIOCESAN PASTORAL COUNCIL WILL MEET
The newly formed Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will meet on Saturday, March
17 at the Griffin Center in Milwaukie.
The pastoral council was formed in November
2000, with representatives from throughout
the archdiocese gathering to elect 12 lay
members. The twelve elected members represent
the geographical vicariates of the
archdiocese. Archbishop Vlazny then appointed
three additional lay members to the
council, two priests, one permanent deacon
and two women religious. The council will
be made up of nine women and eleven men.
The purpose of the Archdiocesan Pastoral
Council is to act as a consultative body
to the archbishop in matters of pastoral planning
for the Archdiocese of Portland.

In addition to Archbishop John G. Vlazny, the council will also include
Father
Dennis O'Donovan, Vicar General and Moderator
of the Curia, as an ex officio member,
Father Charles Lienert, Vicar for Clergy,
who will serve as executive staff member, and
Mr. Todd Cooper, director of special projects,
serving as the recording staff member.
At this first meeting Archbishop Vlazny will explain the role of the Archdiocesan
Pastoral Council and the responsibilities
of the members, and outline the specific work
he would like the council to begin. Father
Lienert will review the council's constitution,
the procedures and process for the meetings.
Father O'Donovan will present an
overview of the Pastoral Center and the
role of the Archbishop's staff. The council will
also review the vicariate reports from
the pastoral assembly held in November, and
discuss the Disciples in Mission process
that happening in 90 parishes and special
ministries in the archdiocese.
