ANNUAL INNER PEACE RETREAT
The annual Inner Peace Retreat will be held on Saturday, January 20th at
St.
Edward Church (5303 River Road N.) in
Keizer. The retreat will be held from 9:30 a.m.
until 2:30 p.m. The theme for this year's
retreat is "A Shift in the Imagination." Sister
Marie Chin, RSM, will lead the retreat.
Sister Marie plans to help participants better
appreciate the spiritual and social power
of the imagination, something that can begin
to be more deeply embraced in a retreat
experience.
The schedule of the day will include the morning session with Sister Marie
Chin,
a simple bread and soup lunch hosted by
St. Edward's Outreach to the World
Committee, an afternoon session "appreciating
the rich character of the sacramental
imagination," and time for small group
conversations, activities, ritual and prayer.
Sister Marie Chin, RSM is the president of the Institute of the Sisters
of Mercy of
the Americas, whose international office
is located in Silver Spring, MD. The institute
was founded in 1991 to strengthen the
Mercy mission of seventeen Mercy
Congregations, uniting more than 5,700
Sisters of Mercy from North, South, and Central
America, the Caribbean, Guam and the Philippines.
Sister Marie was born in Jamaica, West Indies, and entered the Sisters
of Mercy
in 1961. Sister Marie earned a Bachelor's
degree in History and English from the
University of the West Indies, and earned
a Master's degree in formative spirituality
from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh,
PA.
The Inner Peace Retreat is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Portland's Office
of
Justice and Peace, and is hosted this
year by the Outreach to the World Committee of
St. Edward Parish, Keizer. Cost of the
retreat is $10 per person, or $7 per person in
groups of three or more. For registration
