CHRISM MASS TO BE HELD AT CATHEDRAL

Archbishop John G. Vlazny and the priests of the Archdiocese of Portland will
celebrate the annual Chrism Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
on Monday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. The Chrism Mass celebrates the blessing of the Holy
Oils that will be used in the Catholic Church of western Oregon this coming year. The
oils that will be blessed are the Oil of Catechumens, used in baptism, the Oil of the Sick,
to anoint those who are ill, and the Oil of Chrism, used in the sacraments of
Confirmation and Ordination.

Archbishop Vlazny has extended an invitation to all Catholics, and especially
those who will enter the Church at the Easter Vigil this year, to join him and the priests
of the Archdiocese of Portland for this Mass.
