ARCHBISHOP VLAZNY TO ORDAIN FOUR PRIESTS

        Archbishop John G. Vlazny, Archbishop of Portland, will ordain four priests on
Saturday, June 9th, at St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Mass of
Ordination will take place at 11:00 a.m. Those to be ordained are Reverend Mr. William
Moisant, Reverend Mr. Henry Rufo, Reverend Mr. David Schiferl, and Reverend Mr.
Peter Smith.

Rev. Mr. William MoisantReverend Mr. William Moisant was born in Vancouver, WA in 1944. He is the son
of Freida W. Moisant and the late Robert E. Moisant, Sr. He is one of four children.
He attended Providence Academy - St. James School, and graduated from St. Edward's
Seminary high school in Kenmore, WA in 1962. Moisant received a Bachelor of Arts
degree in philosophy from the University of Portland in 1967. He later earned a Master
of Arts degree in philosophy in 1974 from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British
Columbia, and a Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University in 1980.
He worked for the Children's Services Division of the State of Oregon from 1971 - 1991,
and had a private counseling practice (LCSW) in Silverton, OR from 1988 - 1998.

        Reverend Mr. Moisant entered Mount Angel Seminary in 1998. He completed a
Master of Arts degree in Scripture in 1998, and earned a Master of Divinity degree from
Mount Angel Seminary in 2000.

        Moisant's ministry training assignments have included work at Queen of Peace
parish in Salem, the Downtown Chapel in Portland, Providence Milwaukie Hospital, and
St. Vincent de Paul parish in Salem. He was ordained a deacon in May 2000, and he
has served as deacon at Christ the King parish in Milwaukie.

Rev. Mr. Henry RufoReverend Mr. Henry R. O. Rufo was born in Cebu City, Philippines in 1965. He is
the son of Crispin F., and Maria Salome A. Rufo. Henry is one of eight children. He
attended elementary school in Cebu City and graduated from Holy Rosary School of
Pardo high school, Cebu City in 1982. Rufo received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Commerce and Accounting from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines in
1987. He also spent time studying at the Cebu Institute of Technology and at the
University of Urbaniana in Rome, Italy.

        Mr. Rufo entered Mount Angel Seminary in the fall of 1995. He earned a Master
of Arts degree in Theology in 2000 and a Master of Divinity degree in May 2001, both
from Mount Angel Seminary. He was ordained a deacon in May 2000. His ministry
training has included assignments at St. Stephen parish in Portland, a pastoral year at
St. John the Apostle parish in Oregon City, St. Anne's parish in Grants Pass, and he
served this past year as a deacon at St. Mary's in Mt. Angel.

Rev. Mr. David SchiferlReverend Mr. David Schiferl was born in 1959 in Marshfield, WI. He is one of
eight children of Frances Schiferl and the late Felix Schiferl. He attended Abbotsford
Elementary School, and graduated from Abbotsford High School, Abbotsford, WI in
1977. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in math and computer science from the
University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire in 1981, and a Master of Science degree in
computer science from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario in 1984. From 1984
until 1993 Schiferl worked for Tektronix, Inc.

        Mr. Schiferl entered Mount Angel Seminary in 1996. He earned a Master of
Divinity degree from Mount Angel Seminary in 2001. He was ordained a deacon in May
2000. His training in ministry has included assignments at the Hillcrest Youth
Correctional Facility, Salem, the Las Embajadores program in Tijuana, Mexico, a
pastoral year at Sacred Heart parish in Medford, Clinical Pastoral Education at St.
Camillus Campus in Milwaukee, WI. Reverend Mr. Schiferl has served as deacon at St.
Anne parish in Gresham.

Rev. Mr. Peter SmithReverend Mr. Peter Smith was born in 1958 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
He is the son of Patrick L., and Joicelyn S. Smith. He has five brothers and sisters. He
attended elementary school in Pietermaritzburg and graduated from Alexandra High
School, Pietermaritzburg in 1975. He earned a Bachelor degree of Commerce in
Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, in
1981. He earned a Law degree from the University of Natal Law School in 1983.

        Mr. Smith entered the seminary in 1996. He received a Master of Arts degree in
Theology in 2000 and a Master of Divinity degree in 2001, both from Mount Angel
Seminary. Smith is a member of the Brotherhood of the People of Praise. His ministry
assignments include St. Mary parish in Corvallis, the Los Embajadores program in
Tijuana, Mexico, Clinical Pastoral Education at University Good Samaritan hospital in
Minneapolis, MN. He was ordained a deacon in June 2000. His deacon placement has
been at All Saints parish, Portland.
