EVANGELIZATION WORKSHOP PLANNED

        A workshop on the topic of evangelization is planned for January. The workshop will be held at St. Paul Parish in Eugene on Saturday, January 12th, and on Sunday, January 13th at St. Philip Neri Parish in Portland. Frank Mercadante will lead both workshops. The workshop is directed to pastoral leaders, catechists, youth ministers, directors of religious education, Disciples in Mission leadership and all Catholics who want know how to share their faith.

        The workshop will present common notions about evangelization and the current emphasis on evangelization in the Catholic Church. What does evangelization really look like in today's world? How do we as Catholics effectively share our faith? How do we share our stories and how do we invite others into a relationship with Christ. This workshop is planned to be a hands-on experience, and present a new understanding of evangelization and the strategies and tools for evangelizing.

        Mr. Frank Mercadante is the Executive Director of Cultivation for team-based, comprehensive and disciple-making Catholic youth ministers. Cultivation emphasizes training, resources and supporting adult and teen leaders. Mr. Mercadante has a Masters degree in Pastoral Studies as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Youth Ministry. He has written Growing Teen Disciples (Ave Press, 1998), and materials for the Disciples in Mission process for small groups of youth (Paulist National Evangelization Association, 1999).

        The cost of the workshop is $15 prior to December 21st and $20 after December 21st. Those registering after December 21st must include a phone call or an email to the Youth and Young Adult Office to ensure space availability and accurate meal count, 503-233-8395, gladdusaw@archdpdx.org.

        Each workshop will begin gathering at 9:00 a.m. The workshop presentation will start at 9:30 a.m., and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Lunch is included with the registration fee. The evangelization workshop is sponsored by the Archdiocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office and the Archdiocese of Portland Disciples in Mission process.
