ANNUAL TOBIN LECTURE TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 10, 2001

        The annual Tobin Lecture will be held on Saturday, November 10th, 10:00 am
until noon. The event will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 3847 NE Glisan, in
Portland. This annual conference is held in honor of the memory of Monsignor Thomas
Tobin, who dedicated his life's work to struggles for social justice and liturgical renewal.
The theme for this year's conference is "Implementing the natural step: A new way of
looking at how we interact with our environment as individuals, businesses,
communities and especially as church. Presenters will be John and Jane Emrick.

Jane and John EmrickJohn Emrick was born and educated in Portland, graduating from the University
of Portland in 1964 with a marketing degree. He is currently the CEO and president of the Norm Thompson Company, a leading national catalog retailer. Jane Emrick was born in Duluth, MN. She attended the University of Portland and earned a degree in sociology in 1966. She has spent the past 21 years as a volunteer with Providence Hospice. John and Jane Emrick are members of the Oregon Natural Step Network. They will discuss steps institutions can take in light of the Natural Step approach and the Catholic Bishops' of the Pacific Northwest Pastoral Letter on the Columbia River Watershed.

        The Tobin Lecture is hosted by All Saints Parish community and by the
Archdiocese of Portland's Office of Justice and Peace. The event is free and open to the
public.
