MASS FOR DECEASED BISHOPS, PRIESTS AND DEACONS
Archbishop John G. Vlazny and priests of the Archdiocese of Portland will
celebrate a memorial Mass for the deceased
Archbishops, Auxiliary Bishop, priests and
deacons of the Archdiocese. The Mass will
be celebrated on Wednesday, May 22nd at
St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate
Conception (NW 18th & Couch Streets),
Portland. The Mass will begin at 12:00
noon. This annual memorial Mass will be
celebrated on the fifth anniversary of
the death of Archbishop Cornelius M. Power,
seventh Archbishop of Portland in Oregon.
A special remembrance will be made for the clergy who have died since last
May: Father Ervin Vandehey, Father Daniel
Kolasinski, Father Nicholas Christiana,
Father Dominic Broxmeyer, OSB, Father
Mathais Burger, OSB, Fr. Daniel Hasenoehrl,
OSB, and Deacon Gerald McKenzie.
Past Archbishops of Portland, who have died, are: Francis N. Blanchet (died
1883), Charles J. Seghers (died 1886),
William H. Gross, CSsR, (died 1898), Alexander
Christie (died 1925), Edward D. Howard
(died 1983), Robert J. Dwyer (died 1976), and
Cornelius M. Power (died 1997). Auxiliary
Bishop Paul Waldschmidt died in 1994.
All Catholics are invited to attend this memorial Mass on Wednesday, May
22nd,
at 12:00 p.m.
