BISHOP DONALD TRAUTMAN TO SPEAK ON THE SUNDAY EUCHARIST
The Archdiocese of Portland welcomes Bishop Donald Trautman, Bishop of
the
Diocese of Erie, PA, for a workshop on
"the Sunday Eucharist, the Parish and Lay
Ministry." The presentation will be given
at Christ the King Church, Milwaukie (7414 SE
Michael Dr.) on Saturday, March 2, from
9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As Catholics, our
prayer centers around the Sunday celebration
of the Lord's death and resurrection. The
entire evangelization and catechetical
work of the parish begins there, in the pulpit. At
Eucharist on Sunday the Lord proclaims
salvation once again when the Gospel is
proclaimed.
Bishop Donald Trautman is a native of Buffalo, New York. His theological
studies
for the priesthood included time at the
University of Innsbruck, Austria. He studied
under noted theologian Karl Rahner, and
renowned liturgist, Josef Jungmann. He
received a licentiate degree in Sacred
Theology in 1962, the year he was ordained a
priest. Bishop Trautman pursued higher
studies in biblical languages at the Catholic
University in Washington, DC, and later
did postgraduate studies at the Pontifical
Biblical Institute in Rome. He received
a licentiate degree in Scripture in 1965, and a
doctorate in Sacred Theology from St.
Thomas Aquinas University in Rome in 1966.
Bishop Trautman was professor of Sacred
Scripture and Theology at St. John
Vianney Seminary, now Christ the King
Seminary, in East Aurora, NY. He has
contributed to several periodicals including
Bible
Today, Emmanuel, and has had several
articles printed in Origins.
Pope John Paul II named him Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo in February 1985.
He
was named Bishop of Erie on June 12, 1990.
Bishop Trautman has served on several
committees of the United States Conference
of Catholic Bishops, including: the
Administrative Board, Committee for the
Review of Scripture Translations, Doctrine
Committee, Budget and Finance Committee,
Pro-Life Committee, Migration and Refugee
Committee, Communications Committee, and
he served as the Chairman of the
Committee on Liturgy.
