ARCHDIOCESE CELEBRATES WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE

The Archdiocese of Portland will join in the celebration of the World day for
Consecrated Life on Sunday, February 3rd, with a Vespers service at St. Mary's
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m., and a
reception will follow. All men and women in religious life and secular institutes are
invited to join Archbishop John G. Vlazny for this liturgical service.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Be Seekers for the Lord," taken from the
Book of Zephaniah 2:3. Pope John Paul II has written that the World Day for
Consecrated Life offers an opportunity to thank God for the gift of consecrated life,
promote knowledge of the life and to invite consecrated people to celebrate what the
Lord has accomplished in them and acquire more awareness of their mission in the
Church and in the world.

The day for Consecrated Life includes all men and women in religious orders:
priests, brothers and sisters. These men and women serve in many ministries in
western Oregon including: education at elementary, high school, and college levels as
well as in the Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools. They serve in parishes
visiting the sick, in social ministry among the poor, ministering to those in jails and
