Statement concerning Fr. Martin Thielen

        The Archdiocese of Portland has been named in a lawsuit alleging sexual
misconduct by Fr. Martin Thielen. The events are alleged to have occurred in the late
1950's to the early 1960's while Fr. Thielen was Pastor at St. Stephen Parish in
southeast Portland. Fr. Thielen is 91 years old and currently retired. Father Thielen
vehemently denies these allegations.

        The Archdiocese will investigate these allegations and handle them in an
appropriate manner.
