Stayton student's art chosen for Holy Childhood Christmas Seals

The artwork of Macherie Doerfler, a seventh grader at St. Mary School in
Stayton, was among 25 chosen for the 2002 Holy Childhood Christmas seals. The
artwork was chosen from more than 10,000 submitted by children in Catholic
elementary schools and religious education programs throughout the United States.
Ten other students received Honorable Mention and were awarded certificates of merit.

The proceeds from the Holy Childhood Christmas seals support hospitals,
schools and day care centers that serve the poorest of the world's children in
developing countries. The Christmas seals aver available through schools and the HCA
national office for a suggested donation of $2. All proceeds collected are distributed
directly to local churches of Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin
America.

The Holy Childhood Christmas seals have been a popular tradition since 1916.
The Holy Childhood Association is one of four societies in the Pontifical Mission
Societies.
