Lawsuit names Archdiocese of Portland

The Archdiocese of Portland has learned that it was named in a lawsuit alleging
sexual abuse by Mr. Frank Martin, a former gym teacher at St. Clare School in the early
1960's. The Archdiocese has not yet seen this lawsuit.

To date, the Archdiocese has been unable to determine exactly who Frank
Martin was, where he went after leaving St. Clare School in the 1960's, or whether Mr.
Martin is dead or alive. The Archdiocese asks anyone who has information on the
whereabouts of Frank Martin to call 503-233-8351. The Archdiocese will defend this
lawsuit in an appropriate manner.

Abusive conduct of any kind, including sexual conduct, between one who is
performing duties on behalf of the Archdiocese and a minor, not only is criminal but also
violated that relationship and Catholic moral teaching. The Archdiocese of Portland is
committed to preventing child abuse and recognizing signs of child abuse in the children
it serves.
