Advent Ember Day set for December 3
Archbishop John G. Vlazny has established an Ember Day in the Archdiocese
of
Portland for Wednesday, December 3. An
Ember Day is a day of fasting and prayer.
Archbishop Vlazny has asked that Catholics
pray for healing and reconciliation in the
Church and for those who have been sexually
abused. Archbishop Vlazny will lead
Evening Prayer at St. Mary's Cathedral
of the Immaculate Conception (Portland) on
December 3 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Ember Days are set-aside for prayer, fasting, and abstaining from meat.
Archbishop Vlazny established Ember Days
to be held in the Archdiocese of Portland in
September, in Advent – the liturgical
season before Christmas, and in Lent – the
liturgical season before Easter.
All are invited to join Archbishop Vlazny for Evening Prayer at St. Mary
Cathedral
on December 3.
