New lawsuit naming Fr. Michael Sprauer

The Archdiocese of Portland has learned through the news media that a new
lawsuit has been filed naming Father Michael Sprauer. The Archdiocese of Portland
has not yet seen the lawsuit.

Father Sprauer has emphatically denied all allegations of misconduct contained
in these lawsuits. The allegations are being investigated. Following Archdiocesan
policy and procedures, Father Sprauer was placed on administrative leave pending the
outcome of this matter.

He has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Portland since 1972. Father Sprauer
had a distinguished career as a Chaplain and employee of the Oregon State
Department of Corrections for 25 years beginning in 1972. He was employed by the
State at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility from 1972 – 1975.

The Archdiocese of Portland takes all allegations of child abuse seriously, and is
committed to providing a safe environment for all persons served in ministry. The Child
Abuse Policy of the Archdiocese is available on the web site: www.archdpdx.org/abuse-
policy-revised/.
