Seminarian to be ordained a deacon in Rome

        Mr. Michael Vuky will be ordained a transitional deacon on October 9, 2003 at St.
Peter's Basilica in Rome. He is a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Portland. He is the
son of Paul Vuky and Christine Cao Vuky of Beaverton, OR.

        Mr. Vuky attended Holy Trinity and St. Mary of the Valley schools in Beaverton,
and he graduated from Jesuit High School in June 1994. After graduating from the
University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1998, he entered
Mt. Angel Seminary. He has studied at Mt. Angel Seminary and later earned a Sacred
Theology Bachelor degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in June
2003.

        Michael's ministry training has included working in youth ministry at St. Mary
Parish, Mt. Angel, a summer at St. Paul Parish in Eugene, working with the Mt. Angel
Retreat team, work with the Legion of Mary, youth camp with San Martino de Tirano in
Italy, a summer at Our Lady of Lavang parish in Portland, teaching religious education
at Santa Susanna, the American parish in Rome, and clinical pastoral education training
at St. Joseph Providence hospital.

        Mr. Vuky will spend the year after his ordination as a deacon at St. John the
Apostle Parish in Oregon City.
