Catholic parishes to have a special collection for hurricane relief
The devastation of Hurricane Katrina is only now becoming apparent. On behalf of the Catholic Church, Catholic Charities USA is spearheading the response; they will be working with the local Catholic Charities in the affected areas. Catholic Charities has a well developed system for reviewing needs and providing appropriate assistance. To assist in the relief efforts Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Portland, and throughout the United States, will be taking up special collections. The funds will be forwarded to national relief office of Catholic Charities USA for distribution to the areas affected by the hurricane.
Catholics will keep
hurricane victims in their prayers at Mass.
