Summer Institute welcomes Biblical Scholar
The Office for Ministry Formation is pleased to announce that the Summer Institute will be held July 15 – 16, at St. Pius X parish in Cedar Mill. The featured speaker will be Father Leslie J. Hoppe, OFM, Ph.D. The Summer Institute provides for all who minister, priests, deacons, religious and lay ministers, an opportunity for study and reflection on an aspect of ministry.
Father Leslie J. Hoppe, OFM, Ph.D. is Professor of Old Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Father Hoppe received a Master of Arts degree at the Aquinas Institute of Theology and earned his Ph.D. at Northwestern University and at the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Illinois. Father Hoppe has a keen interest in biblical archaeology in addition to his teaching and research on Old Testament interpretation. He has served on several excavation projects in Galilee. His teaching focuses on the prophetic and Deuteronomic literature.
The Summer Institute will begin with registration on Friday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m., Evening Prayer and welcoming will take place at 7:00 p.m., and the evening presentation by Father Hoppe will be at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, breakfast will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the day will end with the Summary and Closing prayer at 3:00 p.m. The cost of the Institute is $25 without meals and $40 with meals (breakfast and lunch on Saturday). Pre-registration is needed for meal planning. Those needing housing should contact the Ministry Formation Office (503-652-7476) for information.
