Annual Catechetical Conference to be held in Beaverton
The 2005 Catechetical Conference will be held on Saturday, October 15, at Valley Catholic School in Beaverton. The annual conference is an opportunity for education and spiritual formation for those working in parish religious education and youth ministry programs. The featured speakers will be Dr. Robert McCarty (English) and Sister Leticia Salazar, ODN (Spanish). The theme for this year’s conference is “Alive with Christ.” The conference runs from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Dr. Robert McCarty will give the keynote address, and his topic is, “The National Directory for Catechesis: A new map.” Dr. McCarty is the executive director of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, which provides vision, resources, leadership, networking and training for youth ministry. Bob has been in youth ministry/catechesis since 1973, serving in parish, school, diocesan and national organizations. He has a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
Sister Leticia Salazar, ODN will give the keynote address, “Evangelizar Educando y Educar Evangelizando.” She is a member of the Sisters of the Company of Mary. She serves as Co-Director of the Institute for Pastoral Ministry in the Diocese of Orange. She is completing a Master’s degree in Bioethics with an emphasis on theology at Loyola University.
In addition to the keynote presentations there will be ten workshops in English and nine workshops in Spanish. Among the workshops in English will be “Transformative Catholicism: Why we celebrate the RCIA,” by Father Ronald Raab, CSC; “It’s all about mission: Catechesis forms disciples,” by Mary Jo Tully; and “The Role of the Catechetical Leader: Who am I? Where am I? What is my role?”
The cost of the conference is $25. A box lunch may be pre-ordered for $7,
or participants may bring their own lunch. Registration is due October
