Ember Day to be held on Wednesday, September 28th

The autumn Ember Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 28 in the Archdiocese of Portland. An Ember Day is a day of prayer and fasting. Archbishop John G. Vlazny will be present at Christ the King Parish that evening for an hour of prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament to be followed by benediction. Archbishop Vlazny has asked parishioners to “pray and fast for all the victims of child sexual abuse by the clergy of this archdiocese, for their eventual reconciliation with the church and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that, as a church, we will be faithful to our evangelizing mission during these challenging and emotional times.”

The Archdiocese of Portland celebrates Ember Days three times per year: in the fall, at the beginning of the Advent season before Christmas and during the Lenten season before Easter. Archbishop Vlazny instituted Ember Days in the Archdiocese in 2002 as a way for the Church in western Oregon to reach out to victims of sex abuse and their families.

The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, which is located at 7414 SE Michael Drive in Milwaukie. All are invited to participate.
