Eight men to be ordained  

          Eight men will be ordained priests by Archbishop Alexander K. Sample on Saturday, June 8, at St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  The Mass of ordination will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Those being ordained are Rev. Mr. Mark Bentz, Rev. Mr. Paolo Dayto, Rev. Mr. Aniceto Guiriba, Rev. Mr. James Herrera, Rev. Mr. Peter Nhat Hoang, Rev. Mr. Charles Holden, Rev. Mr. John Marshall, and Rev. Mr. Chrispine Otieno.

          Mark Bentz was born in 1985 in Indianapolis, IN.  He is one of six children of Clinton and Maureen Bentz.  He attended Lourdes Elementary School in Scio and graduated from Regis High School, Stayton, in 2004.  After studying at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Mark entered Mount Angel Seminary earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies in 2008.  He next attended the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium earning a Sacred Theology Bachelor degree in Theology and Religious Studies in 2010.  He then studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome, and completed a Sacred Theology Licentiate degree in Spiritual Theology in 2013.  He was ordained a transitional deacon on June 24, 2012 by Archbishop John G. Vlazny.

          Reverend Mr. Bentz’s ministry training has included assignments with the Missionaries of Charity in Ethiopia, a Spanish immersion program in Queretaro, Mexico, a pastoral year at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Astoria, and he served as deacon at St. Joseph Parish in Salem.

          Nemesio Paolo John Balantes Dayto was born in 1983 in Daraga, Albay, Philippines.  He is the son of Nemesio (deceased) and Carmen Dayto.  He has three sisters.  Paolo attended elementary school in Legazpi Port, Legazpi City, Philippines, and secondary school in Rawis, Legazpi City, Philippines, graduating in 2000. He attended Mater Salutis College, in Sipi, Daraga Albay, Philippines, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Philosophy in 2006.  Paolo entered Mount Angel Seminary and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Theology in 2012 and a Master of Divinity degree in 2012. Paolo was ordained a deacon on May 21, 2011 by Archbishop Vlazny.  

          Reverend Mr. Dayto’s ministry training has included assignments at St. Paul Parish in Silverton, St. Mary Parish in Corvallis, St. Juan Diego Parish and St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish both in Portland.

          Aniceto III Villareal Guiriba was born in 1977 in Camalig, Albay, Philippines.  He is one of seven children of Aniceto N. Guiriba, Jr., and Erlinda J. Villareal. He attended elementary school in Daraga, Albay, and secondary school in Legazpi, Albay graduating in 1994.  He graduated from Bicol University College of Arts of Sciences in Daraga, Albay earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1998.  After studying in seminaries in the Philippines, Aniceto entered Mount Angel Seminary.  He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Vlazny on May 19, 2012.

          Reverend Mr. Guiriba’s ministry training has included assignments at parishes in the Philippines, and at St. Anthony Parish in Tigard and Queen of Peace in Salem.

          James Herrera was born in 1977 in Stayton.  He is the son of Manuel and Kyla Herrera.  He attended elementary school in Marion, OR, and graduated from West Albany High School, Albany, in 1995.  After attending Linn Benton Community college in Albany, James entered Mount Angel Seminary.  He graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies.  He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 2013 from Mount Angel Seminary.  He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Vlazny at St. Mary Cathedral on May 19, 2012.

          Reverend Mr. Herrera’s ministry training has included assignments at St. Anthony Parish in Tigard, Sacred Heart Parish in Gervais, the Benedictine Providence Nursing Center in Mt. Angel, working with the youth group at St. Mary Parish in Mt. Angel, and a pastoral intern year at St. Anthony Parish in Forest Grove.  He has served as a deacon this year at St. Edward Parish in Keizer, while continuing his theological studies.

          Peter Nhat Hoang was born in Saigon Vietnam in 1984.  He is one of three sons of Cao Thanh Hoang and Huong Thanh Tran.   He attended elementary school in Portland, and graduated from Grant High School, Portland, in 2002.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Mount Angel Seminary in 2006.  His graduate studies in theology were at St. Patrick Seminary and University in Menlo Park, CA, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree.  Peter was ordained a deacon at St. Mary Cathedral by Archbishop Vlazny in 2012.

          Reverend Mr. Hoang’s ministry training has included assignments at Our Lady of Lavang Parish, Santa Anna, CA, Clinical Pastoral Education at Vistas Hospis in Irvine, CA, The Madeleine Parish in Portland, at St. Vincent de Paul in East Palo Alto, CA, at St. Rita Parish in Portland and at St. Elizabeth Parish, Milpitas, CA.

          Charles Edward Holden was born in New York, NY in 1953.  He is one of five children of Edward S. and Jane Ward Holden, both deceased.  Charles attended elementary school in Chailly-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland. He graduated from Bishop

          Dagwell Hall in Portland, in 1971.  Charles earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies in 1979 from Portland State University.  He did graduate work in theology, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 2013 from Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, WI. 

          Charles made a profession of faith into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Cottage Grove, OR in 1972.  He worked for Bank of America and for Tri-Met before entering the seminary.  He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Vlazny in May, 2012.  His ministry training has included assignments at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Portland, Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, ME, at St. Clare Parish in Portland and at St. Paul Parish in Eugene. 

          John Marshall was born in Pendleton, OR in 1978.  He is the son of John Edward Marshall (deceased) and Catherine B. Perard.  He attended elementary and secondary schools in Pendleton, graduating high school in 1996.  After studying at the University of Portland, John transferred to Mount Angel Seminary earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 2000.  He worked for Umpqua Bank in Beaverton and Bellevue, WA. He returned to Mount Angel Seminary in 2008, and completed work on a Master of Arts degree in Theology and a Master of Divinity degree from Mount Angel Seminary in 2013.  He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Vlazny in May, 2012.  

          Reverend Mr. Marshall’s ministry assignments have included St. Paul Parish in Silverton, the Hillcrest Youth Correctional Institute, Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA, and a pastoral intern year at Our Lady of the Mountain Parish in Ashland.  He has served as a deacon at the Madeleine Parish in Portland and at Resurrection Parish in Tualatin. 

          Chrispine O. Otieno was born in Siaya County, Kenya in 1982.  He is the son of John and Margaret Otieno, and has four siblings.  Chrispine attend elementary and secondary schools in Kisumu, Kenya, graduating in 1999.  He attended the Consulata Institute of Philosophy earning a Diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies in 2005.  He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome in 2005.  Continuing his studies at the Urbaniana University Chrispine earned a Sacred Theology Bachelor degree in 2009.  He earned a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Mount Angel Seminary in 2013.  He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Vlazny at Mount Angel Abbey Church in October, 2012. 

         Reverend Mr. Otieno’s ministry training has included a pastoral intern year at St. Henry Parish in Gresham, Clinical Pastoral Education at Good Samaritan Hospital, Tacoma, WA, and an assignment at St. Paul Parish in Silverton.  He has served as a deacon at St. Mary Parish in Corvallis.
