Children and Christian Initiation
A two-day workshop on “Focus on Initiation: Children and Christian Initiation” will be held Friday and Saturday, January 9-10, 2009 at St. Rita Parish (10029 NE Prescott Street) in Portland. The workshop is presented in partnership with The North American Forum on the Catechumenate and the Archdiocese of Portland.
The workshop will present the vision of
the “Christian Initiation of Children who have reached Catechetical Age.”
It seeks to develop an understanding of a child’s conversion faith journey.
It will do this through reflection, faith sharing, liturgical celebration,
and presentations. The workshop will also help develop skills for implementation
in the local parish.
The presenters for the workshop will be
Nancy Dunkerley and Father Joe Scardella. Nancy is co-founder of Spiritual
Ministries Institute, which promotes ecumenical Christian formation for
spiritual directors and other growth ministries. She is a popular retreat
speaker, and has many years experience with catechumenal ministry at parish
and diocesan levels. Fr. Joe Scardella is a priest of the Syracuse Diocese,
where he serves as Director of the Office for Ministerial Formation. He
has worked in parish ministry, directed the diocesan Office of Worship,
and has been a Forum team member since 1990. He is actively involved in
preparing parish teams in the implementation of the Order of Initiation
for both children and adults.
The registration fee is $260 per person, which includes $190 tuition and $70 facility and meals fee. Early Bird Discount is available to those registered before November 28 and saves $20. A Parish Team discount is available for registrations of 2 or more from one parish, registered at the same time. The discount is $10 per person. Upon completion of registration, participants will receive a confirmation packet containing additional information. Registration information is available on the Archdiocesan web site www.archdpdx.org/religious-education, or by phone 202-884-9758, or by email:info@naforum.org.
