DO YOU QUALIFY FOR  BENEFITS?...A new free and confidential online resource is now being provided through the National Council on the Aging.  This service serves not only seniors but people with disabilities.  You are able to check  eligibility for certain state/federal benefits programs at:  www.BenefitsCheckUp.org.

GREAT RESOURCE FOR FUN...Call your local Parks and Recreation to be on the mailing list for the Disabled Citizens Recreation and Special Needs Accommodation programs.  Year-round activities are planned for all ages.

THEATER-GOERS WHO ARE BLIND OR PARTIALLY SIGHTED...Call 503-226-0702 for information about CADA - a resource group that provides audio description in the arts.

ARCHDIOCESE VIDEO RESOURCES...The Archdiocese has an extensive lending library of videos on a variety of topics related to faith, living the gospel, current issues - including disability awareness for all age levels.  Call Dan or Judy for more information 503-233-8384.

GRANT TO SUPPORT CATHOLIC FAMILIES…
The Office for People with Disabilities administers a grant for Catholic families with children with disabilities.  Generous donors throughout the Archdiocese have contributed to this fund as a support to families.  If you are in need of support, please call OPD 503-233-8319.

NATIONAL CATHOLIC OFFICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (NCPD) NEW WEBSITE…
The NCPD E-News provides brief, timely, and relevant news regarding legislative issues, upcoming events and regional information.  To receive NCPD e-news, contact Jan Benton at jbenton@ncpd.org.  Include the phrase “e-news” in the subject line.

ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER…
A website for families with children with AD/HD is offered by CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder).  www.chad.org.  Their magazine, Attention Is a most helpful resource. To subscribe, call 1-800-233-4050.

UNIVERSAL ACCESS FUNDS…
Your family member with developmental disabilities may be eligible for service funds from the Staley Wait-List class action settlement.  Agencies throughout the state are serving as brokerages for assessing service needs and providing funds to individuals.  Call your local ARC for more information.

 

MARTHA’S PLACE RESPITE CENTER…
A new bed and breakfast for individuals with developmental disabilities who are 10 and older has been established in Tigard providing hourly to 5-day overnight care.  Open Thursday noon to Tuesday noon, this is a ministry of Quiet Waters Outreach.  Call 503-625-3039.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WITH MENTAL EMOTIONAL ISSUES...A free series of 8 weekly classes for families called “Visions for Tomorrow” are being held at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, sponsored by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

NEW COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR OREGONIANS WITH IMPAIRED SPEECH...Oregon Telecommunication Relay Service is now providing Speech To Speech service for people with impaired speech needing to use the phone.  OR Speech to Speech number:  1-877-735-7525 or email van.scheppach@mail.sprint.com.

CATHOLIC DEAF COMMUNITY…Call Sr. Linda Roby 503-236-7527 for information about interpretative liturgies and other programs and resources.

RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN/ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES…
Call your local Parks and Recreation Department and ask to be on the mailing list for DCR-Disabled Citizens Recreation.  New Spring activities are planned.  Catalogues are now available outlining events, classes, and outings.

CATHOLIC VISION RESOURCES…
The Xavier Society and the Catholic Guild for the Blind are two national Catholic organizations who provide free spiritual material in alternative formats (Braille, large print, audio-tape) for Catholics with visual impairments.  Call OPD 503-233-8319 for more information. 

INCLUSIVE CATHOLIC EDUCATION...
The University of Dayton’s NICE center (Network of Inclusive Catholic Educators) addresses needs and issues related to the inclusion of children with disabilities in Catholic schools.  NICE website:  www.udayton.edu.

Inclusion Ministry is a national catholic organization addressing needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities.  Helpful resources and articles provide information through their quarterly publication.  Call 1-800-736-1280.
