Parish Outreach

  • Rebuilding Together Every year on the last Saturday of April numerous parishioners work to repair several owner occupied homes of the low income elderly and handicapped of the community.  Although this work is usually completed in one day, the rest of the year is spent preparing for the event.

  • Drivers As a member of the ecumenical organization Northwest Portland Ministries, this parish participates in the program of driving the homebound to doctors’ appointments and shopping.  Drivers are needed to volunteer several hours a week either driving the NWPM van or their own automobile.

  • Goose Hollow Homeless Shelter This shelter for homeless families operates out of the First Methodist Church from November through March.  Volunteers from churches and organizations in the area serve as overnight hosts or help in the evenings.  On an average night from five to eight families are provided lodging.

  • Macdonald Center A residence for low-income disabled adults, also provides outreach services to the very poor of downtown Portland. The parish supports the center in many ways from sponsoring spiritual retreats, providing home baked goods, celebrating holidays and individual birthdays, collecting and distributing hats, gloves, scarves, books, toiletries, blankets and coats.

  • Medallion Apartments Through the Housing Authority of Portland’s Adopt a Building program our parish has taken on the Medallion apartment complex with the goal of helping to nurture positive community interaction for its elderly and disabled residents.  Among other activities is a monthly birthday party for the residents.

  • St. Vincent DePaul For more than thirty years the parish has been serving the needy of our Northwest neighborhood in conjunction with the Archdiocesan St. Vincent DePaul Society.  Volunteers are needed to continue this work.

  • Sisters of the Road Cafe Every other third Sunday of the month $2 tickets for a hot meal at this Cafe are sold after the Sunday Masses.  These tickets may be given to people asking for food or returned to the Cafe to use as it sees fit.  Volunteers are needed to sell these tickets after the Masses.
