Sacraments

  • Baptism, Infants: To arrange an infant baptism, schedule a half hour appointment with one of the priests or deacons of the parish. During this appointment the sacrament will be discussed and a time for the baptism will be arranged. The normal time for baptisms is after the 11am Sunday Masses. However other times can be arranged.

  • Baptism, Adults:  Normally adults wishing baptism will participate in  Tuesday evening sessions explaining Catholic beliefs and practices. These sessions begin each year in September and finish just before Easter. Baptisms take place at the Easter Vigil. If for some reason an adult is unable to participate in the Tuesday evening sessions, special arrangements for instruction and baptism can often be made. Adults baptized in another Christian church who wish to become Catholic do so by making a Profession of Faith. Their earlier baptism is recognized.

  • Confirmation takes place in the Spring. Junior high students prepare by attending a series of ten sessions once a week after school and a Saturday morning retreat. Adults knowledgeable about their faith prepare by attending two evening sessions. Adults who are baptized but ignorant of Catholic beliefs and practices will be asked to join the Tuesday evening sessions mentioned above for adults wishing baptism.

  • Reconciliation, Penance, Confession is available every Saturday afternoon from 4-5:15pm. During Advent and Lent, Penance Services will consist of scripture readings, a homily, an examination of conscience and an opportunity for individual confession. A private confession may be arranged at any time by appointment.

  • Eucharist:  For a listing of Sunday and weekday Mass times, see Schedule for Liturgical Services. The Eucharist is brought to the homebound of our parish every Sunday after the 9am Mass.  To request this service, contact the parish office.  Special arrangements may also be made for those wishing to bring Communion to a sick relative or friend.

  • Matrimony: Policies and Procedures for weddings at the Cathedral may be obtained by calling the parish office.

  • Holy Orders: Anyone considering the priesthood as a life vocation should contact the parish office.  The same for the sisterhood, brotherhood or diaconate. The parish can put you in contact with archdiocesan programs where you will meet others considering these possibilities.

  • Anointing of the Sick: This sacrament is not just for those in danger of death.  It may be requested at any time by anyone who is elderly or sick. Many request this sacrament before entering the hospital for surgery.

  • Funerals: Please contact the parish when there is a death in the family or when someone is near death. To be of assistance at a time like this is an extremely high parish priority. It is important to understand that a funeral does not need to be expensive. A Mass of Christian Burial or Memorial Mass may be held with no cost to the family from the church.
